Intense training and a hectic racing schedule can be very stressful – especially for rookies. This is normal. Even experienced racers still get nervous. But if you want to perform at your best during race day then you have to learn how to stay relaxed.
Why? Because this will enable you to stay focused. When you are focused you will be able to do your best.
How? Let me give you 4 tips on how to stay relaxed despite heavy training and a hectic racing schedule.
Focus on the race. So many racers make the mistake of focusing on their nerves, the crowd or other things. They easily get sidetracked. Even fans can be a distraction. But you can’t give your 100% without proper focus. In order to do your best don’t let anything distract you. Focus on what matters. Focus on the race. This is the moment that you have been training for. Get your head in the game.
Prioritize. Training time is always a busy time for racers. There is always so much to do and yet we feel like there is not enough time to accomplish them all. This doesn’t mean that you have to forego all your responsibilities. In order to stay relaxed and be at ease you also have to be secure in the knowledge that you’ve got everything covered. So learn to prioritize. Manage your activities well.
Set aside some “me” time. Training is important but it is also vital to take time for your self to relax and unwind. Don’t hammer your self to the ground too much. Set aside time to do things that can relax you. Maybe you can watch a movie or take a stroll or go to the beach. It doesn’t matter what you do. What matters is that you come back relaxed and rejuvenated. Taking some time to relax can actually increase your productivity and make you more effective as a racer.
Avoid conflict. Before the race, avoid any kind of conflict. This can only cause stress and throw you off your game. So avoid getting embroiled in family feuds or skirmishes with your girlfriend. Avoid conflict. Stay relaxed and focused on what really matters.
Racing is not an easy career to follow. There are many challenges and trial that will really test your endurance. You can use these four tips to help you achieve your dreams.
I like to stay in a hotel or camp out for races. It cuts down on conflict and drama quite a bit!
